The Manual Way

  1. 1Navigate to Object Manager → select object → Record Types → New
  2. 2Set label, API name, and description
  3. 3Select which picklist values are available per record type
  4. 4Assign page layouts per profile per record type
  5. 5Enable the record type for relevant profiles
  6. 6Test record creation with different profiles

Example

You type:

Create two record types on Case: 'Internal Request' (no Priority field visible, simple layout) and 'Customer Issue' (all fields visible, detailed layout with related lists).

  • Record Type: Internal_Request (Case)
  • Record Type: Customer_Issue (Case)
  • Page Layout: Case_Internal_Layout (simplified)
  • Page Layout: Case_Customer_Layout (detailed + related lists)
  • Profile Assignment: both available to all profiles
